Fourth week... The end of first practicum :(

It's hard to believe that I'm not in school with the kids and teaching right now.
Saying goodbye was harder than I had thought. Looking at the goodbye cards they made for me...I miss them already. Hope they miss me too!

I'm also quite proud of myself for making through the first practicum. I believe it was successful and rewarding seeing what I have accomplished in the past four weeks.

So in the last week, I mostly supervised the students on their big science project. They had a lesson on "recycling" and learned about the importance of recycling and its impact on the environment.  Then they were introduced to the project of making an object (a piece of art, or an object that can be used in our daily life) from recycled materials. The students were so excited and engaged throughout the whole process, from planning to building to presenting to peers in the gallery walk. They had so much fun, and their work turned out great!!  They also showed great team work (they were doing the project in pairs). Considering they only had one day to built, they are quite efficient!

  1. Hello YiLin,

I’m so glad you posted up some pictures of the student work because they were really fabulous! The project was definitely creative (I’ll keep it mind if I ever get to teach Science in my next practicum). The quality of their work really shows their engagement and enthusiasm throughout. Since I was in the same school as you, your entire project not only taught your class but it really showed the entire school the importance of recycling. I know a lot of students from my class were curious to know what was in the gallery and must have taken the time to look around at some point. I’m really proud of your work because I know all the initial thoughts and hesitations you had when planning this unit. And look at this fabulous end to the practicum- you really showed your talent, knowledge, and passion to your AT and class! I’m so happy for you.

I’m sure they’ll all miss you especially after they look at their own work (like this recycling projects). Also, that little robot magnet and greeting will always bring a smile to their face. I’m glad you had such a great and successful practicum. Hope we’re there together again. All the best for the next one. Will see you in school soon!!

  2. YiLin,

Congratulations of your first Practicum. I worked a lot with you throughout this practicum and a lot of nights figuring out how to make our lesson plans as engaging as possible. In the end, Grade 5 produced great recycling artwork and took chances in making their products. I hope you found more confidence from this practicum you can bring to your next. REAL WORLD SCIENCE! SCIENCE IN THE REAL WORLD! Best wishes on your next one.
